Box 4, folder 6 of RG 62-16, series 79 consists of lists of tax homestead lands withdrawn from sale and set aside for state forests and parks, and recreational areas, for the years 1930-1944. The area set aside under provisions of Michigan Public Act 155 of 1927. Section 131 of this legislative gave the director of the Department of Conservation the authority to withhold homestead property for the purpose of state forests, state parks, game refuges, public hunting and recreational grounds. Areas documented: counties in Upper Northern Peninsula and Upper Peninsula. The lists are signed by the Department of Conservation directors, George R. Hogarth (1930-March 1934), acting director Roy E. Cotton (April-September 1934), and P.J. Hoffmaster (November 1934-1944).
